Rejections and inadequate thoughts SUCK!

This morning, I received a call from a job I applied for. The voicemail started off with ‘hey Curtis…’ and the message commence to give details about ‘Curtis’ getting the position vs. me.

Talk about feeling like I wasn’t worth enough to get the job and also feeling like ‘sheesh…how do you call the wrong candidate and leave a message about the other candidate getting the position’.

Yeah. More on that AND other positions I didn’t get in the episode. Gotta keep it pushing and stay positive, right? Enjoy.

The First of 2025

We are BYKE...for the first couple of thoughts of 2025. I'm working on doing video for every podcast, including Clear Visions. I had a homie insist that I do a show that speaks on my thoughts that will live on YouTube. I've been putting it off FOREVER, so this are the efforts.

In this episode, I speak about the "IT" factor that people believe that Joey Bada$$ is missing and why Hip Hop is judgmental towards emcees and the culture.

I also speak on a few books that I'm reading: High and Rising: A Book About De La Soul by Marcus J. Moore, The Spook Who Sat By The Door by Sam Greenlee, and Culturemaking: When Creative Entrepreneurship and Community Building Collide by Houston White.

Then I wrapped up the show speaking on the DEI situation as it relates to buying direct and speaking about my favorite, and least favorite social media platforms.

The Work and the Ethics feat. Krate Digga and Shawn 'S-Squared' Smith

1. work (noun): activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose or result.
Ex. "he was tired after a day's work"

Based off the definition, a lot of people, organizations, institutions are not doing the work to reach the results. Maybe the results are in the beholder of who is doing the work.

Listen...I don't know. I do know that people work ethics are simply trash. Someone might believe that my work ethic isn't the best. They better not say it publicly because I'll become aggressive about that.

I WORK. PROUDLY and for purpose.

Anywho...I had my brothers Krate Digga and Shawn 'S-Squared' Smith join me for a conversation about what work and the ethics mean to them. I also want to figure out if I need to join the crew of people that don't do a thing or keep going with how I do things.

Simply put: market yourself. If you don't know how to, look at the people you admire and reach out to them. Find a friend that's good at it and ask them to show you what's up. All of that...but please, Neighbors and Groovers...market yourself.

No one is going to help you. Even if you pay them.

Well...rephrase...act AS IF no one is going to help you.

Push and Pull Strategies

We’re pushing and pulling…pushing and pulling…AND pushing and pulling, yall. *laughs*
Here’s a quick pod episode where I speak on some school things: push strategy and pull strategy. I understand these methods but reading it in the space that I’m in made the ‘ah haa’ light bulb come on.

I share my…vision…on how push and pull strategies apply to marketing…or whatever your involvement is with your purpose in life (shout out to the capitalist/’GET MONEY’ folks out there). I’m not near my book to reference it, but I’m thorough with it, so it’s good.

Will Our Content Ever Be Right??

Here's a quick word about how we question and second guess ourselves when it comes to the beautiful work we create...and we end up not letting it go for the world to adore. These words are confirmation that I go through it often, but I have to just throw it out and let it breathe.

Someone mentioned that when you do work, you might not get that instant appreciation from people. It might come a year from now...or even 20 years from now. That sat with me...along with some content I need to quit playing around with and throw out *laughs*. So yes creator...you got it and we appreciate your work. We'll support it when you release it. We're standing with you.

The music world stopped, but me and my brother Dedrick Hicks, Jr. were going...on the voice messages! Why did it stop...??? Yeah...HOV DID *theatre music comes on*...BUT...is Hov DONE...*lightning strikes and lady screams*...???

We go through his powerful, and probably his best verse EVER that was on DJ Khaled's new album 'GOD DID'. Dee gives some wild theories, which I agreed with...we decide on where this verse sits at on the 'list'...and we enjoyed being amazed at the greatness Jay-Z gives us that some of yall don't even deserve...but WE DO *in Khaled voice*.

An Ode To Barry White feat. Crowned ReRe

After a podcast recording with my friend Crowned ReRe for our show Flowers For The Culture, I left the recordings on while we went through some of Barry White’s music and celebrated him…or gave him his flowers.
